VR Crowd Performance



“Emergence is an open-world environment, expressing the primal desire to maintain your individual identity whilst being part of a crowd.”

Developed for Universal Everything as a continuation of our exploration of crowd behaviour and performance. Simulated and rendered in realtime using compute shaders and instanced meshes in Unity 2018.

“As you immerse yourself in a crowd of thousands, shafts of light beckon you closer. As you touch the light, the environment – its atmosphere, its gravity and the choreography of the crowd – transform in powerful ways, continually challenging your perception.”

Emergence formed part of Universal Everything’s solo show Fluid Bodies at Borusan Contemporary, Istanbul, in 2018-2019. The VR version, presented in collaboration with WITHIN, was premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival as part of New Frontier, a curated collection of cutting-edge independent and experimental media works by artists and creators working across new mediums.
