Candy Crush Dance Floor
Interactive dance floor bling
2016
An interactive dance floor built for a Candy Crush party in LA.
Working with another programmer and a well known design studio, I developed openFrameworks based software to drive fast-paced, glossy visuals on a huge LED dance floor. The floor was essentially a toughened LED wall, five metres long and wide. We implemented laser-based tracking using radarTouch hardware and software that allowed us to track multiple feet across the whole floor in realtime. We added a custom layer of software to smooth the data and associate feet with people.
The visuals then responded to dance moves in realtime to create optical stimulus overload, in keeping with the game. In addition to this, we developed a layer of procedural animation and baked video animations that could be triggered/VJed live on the night using a midi controller.
