The Medal Machine

This was a little experiment with Nic Mulvaney to see if we could do something with the amazing Olympic data made available by the guardian. The data contained details on every modern Olympics event including locations and medal winners. Rather than opt for straight up data visualisation, we decided to have a crack at a simple Natural Language Processing (NLP) app. The idea was that you could ask the machine/brain questions about previous olympics events and it would reply with an answer. Nic developed a really nice front end and I built a python/django app to access the data, query it using regular expression pattern matching, and return (hopefully) an answer based on the data.
